My Project Statement for submission of my project '(XY)':Transmasculine is a gender identity that describes people who identify towards the male binary, but not completely.Over the past two years, I have been traveling around the UK, photographing transmasculine people in their chosen "safe spaces". These are places where they find refuge from society, reflect on their identity and where they can unapologetically be themselves. Relating to this concept myself, I found it important to document both the individual and their space in order to communicate the parallels further.The people I photograph are at various stages of their transition, whether that be social or medical. Going through this process myself, it is liberating to photograph others going through the same and exchanging thoughts on our experiences.
