Short Supply is an arts organisation based in the North West.
WHAT WE DO
Short Supply is a bridge between emerging artists and arts organisations, producing exhibitions, workshops and talks to create enriching environments that allow us to platform, connect and exchange knowledge alongside emerging artists in the north west and nationally. Being the change we want to see and all that.
Notable projects include our graduate art prize MADE IT (exhibitions at HOME, Rogue Artists' Studios, Paradise Works), our Arts Council England funded tour around the north west Goin Places Doin Bits, collaborations with Islington Mill, SOUP, Manchester Pride, UKNA and our programming for organisations like Manchester Art Gallery, Institute of International Visual Arts, The Whitworth and Culture Warrington.
She / They
Rebekah is the director of Short Supply, and our financial and install wizard. You'll often find her head first in a spreadsheet or knee deep in wilkos finest wall emulsion. She is also a multidisciplinary artist, and makes work about the feminine body, gender and sexuality through collage, fibre, print and illustration.
They / Them
Mollie is the director of Short Supply, and our ~big cheese~. If you drop us an email, catch us at an event or otherwise want to get the lowdown on the project and talk "serious business" they are your contact. They are also an artist, and use painting in the expanded field to challenge restrictive structures often associated with painting practice.
She / Her
Bonnie is the Baby of Mollie & Rebekah, and the Mascot of Short Supply. She has a love for sniffing around studios during visits, checking artwork is installed securely at events, and boosting the serotonin of everyone around her! As a pet, she loves chasing squirrels, Bakers Allsorts, and sleeping in someone's lap - usually Rebekah's!
They / Them
Grace is the project coordinator of Short Supply, the newest (and shiniest) member of the team. They help to keep projects running smoothly, manage artist and collaborator relationships, and basically make sure everyone is happy! As an artist, they research how people work together, and document that to create artworks.
BEING THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE
For the last two years, we’ve balanced Short Supply with full time paid work to pay the bills (like most artists, we see you Rishi). We’ve also relied on the generosity of artists, designers, organisers, space-givers, all-round-good-eggs to share their time with us. This is how the artist-led scene works most of the time, a good deed for a good deed, we love it but we think we all deserve a bit more than that. Short Supply has become a full time job, as we move towards getting our own space, commissioning artist work, spreading artist-led activities beyond major cities and partnering with more and more organisations who need our help to link up with you lot. We’re very excited about it all, but even our quick little mitts can’t keep up with our current email load.
Over the next year, the goal for us is to become self-sufficient, to finance projects on our own terms while sharing our knowledge, resources and time with you. Our Patreon page is to help us get there, to allow us to take more time off the day jobs to focus on sustaining and growing the support that we’ve been giving so far.
