STEP ONE
One chair. One question.
What’s yours?
STEP ONE debuts at Edinburgh Fringe
We’re taking one chair and one question to the Scottish Storytelling Centre this August.
What’s an idea you’ve always wanted to try, but haven’t yet?

STEP ONE is a new live project by Short Supply, debuting at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026
From 7–22 August, we’ll be at the Scottish Storytelling Centre asking one simple question:
What’s an idea you’ve always wanted to try, but haven’t yet?
It might be an artwork. A book. A business. A performance. A conversation. A ridiculous idea that won’t leave you alone. Whatever it is, STEP ONE is an invitation to sit down, say it out loud, and begin somewhere.
No perfect plan needed.
No polished pitch.
No pressure to have already figured it all out.
Just one chair, one question, and a first step.

You don’t need to book. Just come by, sit down if you’d like to, and tell us the idea you’ve always wanted to try.
How it works
STEP ONE is a drop-in live project.
We’ll be sitting with one chair and one question. Visitors are invited to join us for a short conversation about an idea they haven’t started yet — something they’ve been carrying around, waiting for the right time, permission, confidence or conditions to begin.
It might be tiny. It might be practical. It might just be saying the idea out loud for the first time. That still counts.

Why STEP ONE?
So many ideas never fail because they were bad.
They fail because they were never started.
STEP ONE is about the fragile moment before the beginning: the private, awkward, hopeful space where an idea exists, but hasn’t yet entered the world.
As artists, producers and the co-founders of Short Supply, we’ve spent years working with early-career artists, unfinished ideas, risky beginnings and people trying to build something without perfect conditions.
This project is for anyone who has ever thought: “I’d love to try that one day.”
This August, we’re asking:
What if one day was now?
